10 Days Tanzania & Zanzibar Wildlife Safari
Tanzania & Zanzibar safari is the most ideal way to explore and enjoy the beautiful land of Tanzania which is one of the East African safari hotspots dotted with different wilderness national parks and among others that you will visit are Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro areas, and Lake Manyara.
These conservation areas expose you to the big five animals, big cats, beautiful landscapes covered by valleys, lush vegetation and rich wildlife. After, you will head to Zanzibar to encounter different attractions like beaches, Stone Town, visiting Jozani forest national park among others.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Tanzania and dine at a hotel
Arrive at the airport, meet and greet with your safari driver / guide who will take you through a quick brief about the Tanzania & Zanzibar safari and then transfer to a preferred hotel. In case you need a massage or steam bath, you can have that as well but as an optional activity.
Day 2: Transfer to Tarangire national park and game drive
Have a delicious breakfast and after transfer to Tarangire national park which is one of the smallest national parks in Tanzania but offers an excellent opportunity for game viewing. On the arrival, you will engage in a game drive that will take you to Tarangire River where there is a large concentration of animals because it’s the only permanent water source in the park.
The unique vegetation comprised of the baobab trees, sausage tree, and acacia among others offers a great view. The game drive will introduce you to some of the wild animals that live in this park and among others include rhinos, giraffes, kudu, baboons, zebras, impalas, elephants, lions, leopards among others.
Day 3: Game drive and transfer to Serengeti National Park
Continue with a game drive this morning where more of the wildlife will be discovered and these include, hartebeests, lions, leopards, impalas, oribis, giraffes, Zebras, and also birds like ostriches, parrots, vultures, bee-eaters, hamerkops, and guinea fowls among others. You will have amazing photographic moments with the sunrise depending on weather.
Later after breakfast, transfer to Serengeti National Park which is well known to host the wildebeest migration that normally finds their way to Masai Mara national reserve of Kenya. This area was proclaimed to be a national park in 195, and in 1981, it was designed as a world heritage site by UNESCO. While on the way to Serengeti National Park, you will have an option of visiting Olduvai Gorge where the archaeologists discovered the skull of early man, the museum displays different tools used. Check in the lodge in the late evening.
Day 4: Full day in Serengeti National Park
Wake up early and have the most memorable time during this full-day exploration in Serengeti plains. The best spotting area will be considered and among others are hippo pools where different animals roam around as they come to drink water. On this day, you will watch a pride of lions, a school of hippos, crocodiles, and if you are lucky enough, you will be in the middle of millions of wildebeest migration.
Other mammals to be spotted include zebras, elephants, buffalos, elands, leopards, cheetahs among others. The open plains of Serengeti national park offer the best photographic scenery with rocks and make it easy for the wild animals to roam around the park. The game drives will be 3 and that is the morning, evening, and afternoon game drives with a break of breakfast and lunch.
Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro crater
The day will begin with an early morning game drive in the plains of Serengeti and after we head to the Ngorongoro area which is managed by both the locals and the government. The locals graze their cattle alongside the wild animals. As you head to the Ngorongoro area, you will have a chance to sight the lifestyle of the Masai people and this will be through the dressing code, food and housing.
The area here is dotted with different crater lakes that attract wildlife in form of birds and animals. While in this area, be ready to spot different animals such as the hippos, crocodiles, rhinos, zebras, buffalos, waterbucks, wild dogs, leopards, impalas, topis, lions among others.
Day 6: Full day in Ngorongoro area
Another day of your Tanzania & Zanzibar Safari will take you a full day game drive to the craters of Ngorongoro conservation area, where you will encounter different vegetation and landscapes such as the forest areas that are occupied by monkeys and elephants, open plains where lions, rhinos, warthogs, impalas, crocodiles hippos among others roam freely.
You will engage in 3 different game drives and each takes about 3-4 hours depending on the number of stopovers. Later on, return to the lodge for your dinner.
Day 7: Drive to Manyara national park and evening flight to Zanzibar
Head out for another interesting safari destination, which is Lake Manyara national park, one of the smallest conservation areas that covers an area of 325 square kilometers. This park is famous for being a host to the rare tree-climbing lions in Africa alongside Queen Elizabeth national park of Uganda.
The has amazing views of rift valley escarpments, shallow alkaline waters of the lake attract different birds including the flamingos, pelicans, ostriches, hornbills among others. Different wild animals such as elephants, klipspringers, warthogs, impalas, buffalos, hippos, gazelles, lions, among others will also be spotted. After a short game drive, you will proceed to Arusha and fly to Zanzibar where your tour representative will be ready to welcome you and take you to the booked resort beach hotel.
Day 8-9: Explore Zanzibar and different attractions
Have fun and enjoyment while discovering the best of Zanzibar through participating in different activities like visiting Stone Town with its unique features or architecture, made from coral reefs. The religious sites, museums, markets among others will be visited during this city tour. Another great experience comes when you tour the Jozani-Chwaka bay national park which is the only forested conservation area with wildlife. Spot different animals like Zanzibar leopards, snakes, different birds among others.
Another visit will take you to the spice gardens where you will discover as you learn the different spices grown at the island and introduced by early settlers. The spices that will be discovered include cloves, cocoa, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg, among others. Touch, smell, and taste when taking food or tea beverage.
Also, have a chance to take in beach activities such as swimming, sunbathing, kite surfing, snorkeling, and beach soccer among others, or even relax at the blue water beaches while sipping a drink of your choice.
Day 10: Depart and fly back home
On this day, you will have relaxed breakfast and then head to the airport where you will board your flight back home, thus marking the end of your 10 days Tanzania & Zanzibar safari.
