3 Days Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking in Uganda
Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking safari is mainly done in Kibale National Park located in the Western part of the country and mostly renowned as the home of thirteen primates in Uganda. This safari will expose you to trek the Chimpanzees our fellow cousins that live in natural habitats and while on the search, encounter other primates like the black and white colobus monkeys red-tailed monkeys, grey checked mangabeys, red colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons among others and you enjoy the different bird species like the great blue turacos.
A journey to and from this destination is amazing too with different attractions like the roadside markets, tea plantations among others. While in Kibale national park, you will have a chance to visit the local community of Isunga at the edge of the national park where you will be entertained with cultural dances by the Bakiga and Batooro, also take a community walk and explore the three crater lakes in the straight line.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up in Kampala / Entebbe and travel to Kibale Forest National Park
Depending on the agreed point, you will be picked by our expert tour guide and make a transfer to Kibale national park after a short briefing highlighting the weather, attractions, and equipment needed while on the Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking safari. Start a journey that will take 5-6 hours’ drive depending on the speed and the stopovers to Kibale National Park.
This unique national park is home to 13 primates that gives an impressive experience. Several stopovers are considered and the major ones will be in Mubende Town for a break and grabbing a snack like roasted plantains, cassava among others, and another one in the tea plantations of Fort portal. Arrive at the hotel and be welcomed, check-in the room, and dinner follows.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Visit Isunga Cultural Community at the edge of Kibale Forest National Park
On second day of the 3 Days Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Uganda, have a morning breakfast and then your driver-guide will take you to the Kanyanchu information center where chimp tracking begins. At exactly 08:00hours, you will have a briefing session together with other visitors and then join a group of 6 trekkers with a guide. The briefing is important as you get more information about our fellow cousins; i.e. chimpanzees, getting to know the dos and don’ts, all required to inform about Kibale forest and its inhabitants among others.
With the help of a park ranger guide, you will start the search while meeting other primates and birds, the ranger guide will be using radio calls to communicate with fellow guides to be able to track the location of the chimps. On lactating the chimps, you will have an hour in their presence as you take memories of photos and videos but remember that a flashlight camera is not allowed. Later on, head out of the forest and head for your early lunch at the lodge that will be followed by a visit to Isunga Cultural Community and take a community walk with simple hikes. Explore the different homestays while finding a way to the top of the world to have a view of 3 crater lakes in a straight line, Kibale forest, verdant tea plantations and Rwenzori mountain ranges in a distance.
This walk is one of the exciting adventures and you would not want to miss it and it takes about 3 to 4 hours. In the evening after dinner, Isunga cultural community dancers/troop will entertain you with both Bakiga and Batooro traditional music and dances since they co-exist in Isunga Community.
Day 3: Depart to Kampala
Have a relaxed breakfast at the safari lodge, check out and travel back to Kampala while enjoying different green tea plantations, natural forests and varied landscape covered by hills and valleys.
The journey to Kampala/Entebbe takes about 5-6 hours with a stopover in Mubende Town for lunch. On arrival, you will either be dropped at the airport in Entebbe or any booked accommodation and this will mark the end of your 3 Days Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Uganda.
