7 Days Rwanda Gorillas & Masai Mara Safari
Welcome to this 7 days Rwanda gorillas & Masai Mara safari that will take you to the most renowned East African destinations known for remarkable wildlife. Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is home of gorilla trekking while Masai Mara national reserve is great for wildlife viewing.
Exploring Kenya and Rwanda during this safari creates memorable experiences of viewing the big five animals, wildebeest migration in case the safari happens during migration seasons, visit endangered mountain gorillas that are human’s closest relatives and also visit some of the city-based attractions in Kigali such as the Rwanda genocide memorial center, presidential Palace museum, local markets among others.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to a hotel after a short city tour
Our assigned driver guide will welcome you on your arrival at the airport and then go through the briefing and after transfer to a hotel in Kigali. In case time allows, you will have a short city tour where places like the Rwanda Genocide Memorial Site, Presidential Palace Museum and local markets among other places will be visited.
Rwanda is known to be the cleanest country in Africa and referred to as the land of a thousand hills. This came as a result of having dotted highlands around the country which you will witness while in Kigali. Drive to the hotel and this will be the end of day one after dinner.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park with a visit to some city attractions
On the second day of your 7 days Rwanda gorillas & Masai Mara safari, have a light or heavy breakfast depending on your choice and after continuing with a visit to some of the attractions in the city of Kigali Rwanda. Later on, embark on the journey to Volcanoes national park in the Southwestern part of Rwanda, this park is a home to different wildlife both flora and fauna. The most renowned mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, over 200 beautiful birds, different vegetation covers such as montane forest, bamboo forest, swamp and heath among others.
Additionally, the park is home to 5 of the 8 Virunga Mountains, including Karisimbi, Bisoke, Gahinga, Sabyinyo and Muhabura. Enjoy the journey to this park, filled with beautiful landscape and later head to your booked lodge on arrival in the evening.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking and visit Gorilla Guardians Village
Head to the park office in the morning and attend the briefing which is one of the must do activities while heading for briefing. The briefing is important as you learn and acquire skills to use while in the presence of this gorilla habitat and the forest at large. During this time, you can join a group of 8 people to trek one gorilla family with the help of a park ranger guide. After, head to the forest to start searching for these endangered species in their natural habitat, time spent while on such cannot be determined and this is because of natural factors as these apes keep moving from one place to another.
Upon locating them, you will be allowed an hour in their presence while having a memorable experience. Spot the apes doing different things such as eating, moving, grooming young ones, among others. Later, return to the lodge after the trek for lunch and then visit the Ibyiwachu village and at this point, learn about the Rwandan culture through traditional dances, handcraft making, storytelling among others. This is a great way of discovering one of the African cultures. Return to the lodge for your evening dinner.
Day 4: Transfer to Kigali, fly to Nairobi and check in the hotel
Have morning breakfast, transfer to Kigali where you will be able to fly to Nairobi. The tour guide representative will be at the airport waiting for your arrival, who will have a big smile on his face after setting his eyes on you. He will also brief you about the country, the safari at large and gladly take you to the booked accommodation in Nairobi, Kenya.
Day 5: Head to Masai Mara National Reserve and evening game drive
Have a morning breakfast and then transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve. The road trip rewards you with great viewing points like the rift valley and again passes the Masai villages and has a view of one of the nomads in Africa grazing cattle.
Arrive and have lunch at the lodge which will be followed by a game drive in the evening which will expose you to the true wildlife composed of the big five animals such as the lion, buffalos, leopard, rhino and elephant and other animals like the giraffes, Zebras, elands, antelopes among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Full day in Masai Mara National Reserve
Enjoy the Maasai Mara plains on this day where you will encounter more and more wildlife including one of the world’s wonders – wildebeest migration in case the safari is happening in the season of migration. Wildebeests normally move in millions accompanied by thousands of zebras.
Other animals that will be spotted include bushbucks, waterbucks, oribis, Jackson hartebeests, lions, elephants, buffaloes, olive baboons, birds like ibis, hornbills among others. This exciting day also includes bush lunch and this creates wildlife memories.
Day 7: Transfer back to Nairobi and fly back home
After breakfast, visit one of the Masai villages and learn more about this culture of nomads, with a sunrise game drive in the plains and thereafter transfer to Jomo Kenyatta airport in Nairobi and this will mark the end of your 7 days Rwanda gorillas & Masai Mara safari.
